Mainly Mozart Festival: REFLECTIONS AND HORIZONS

ABOUT THE PROGRAM
Acclaimed accordionist Hanzhi Wang, praised by The New York Times for her “staggering virtuosity and soulful musicianship,” returns to the Mainly Mozart Festival with a spellbinding solo recital that reimagines the expressive possibilities of the accordion.
Reflections and Horizons invites listeners on a journey through time and sound. From the elegance and fire of Scarlatti’s Baroque sonatas to the timeless spirituality of J.S. Bach’s chorales and Goldberg Variations, the first half reflects on music’s sacred and classical roots. The program then shifts to a more personal and contemporary voice—featuring Wang’s own compositions (Sunrise Chanting, Mountain’s Song), seasonal miniatures by Martin Lohse, and a vivid Piazzolla set that pulses with tango’s soulful urgency. Intimate, poetic, and boldly virtuosic, this concert showcases a singular artist at the height of her creative voice.
