The Minnekhada Fire – Past, Present and Future
Interpretive Walks with a Nature Interpreter, sponsored by the Minnekhada Park Association
As we approach the third anniversary of the Minnekhada fire that began on October 1, 2022, the Minnekhada Park Association is pleased to offer a special series of free interpretive hikes, led by an experienced nature interpreter. These walks invite you to explore the lasting effects of the fire, the ongoing recovery of Minnekhada’s ecosystems, and the inspiring resilience of nature.
Participants will learn about the changes brought by the fire, discover how local flora and fauna are adapting, and gain insight into the important work MPA is doing to protect this cherished regional park. Along the way, you’ll also hear fascinating stories from Minnekhada’s past, present and future.
The walks will begin at the Quarry Road parking area and follow a scenic route that includes both easy and moderate trails, with a few short steep sections. Free to the public with early access for Minnekhada Park Association members and volunteers.
Please wear appropriate footwear and be prepared for changing weather conditions.
