Første koncert i årets program præsenterer en stjernekvintet i international klasse. De spiller to centrale værker for fem strygere.

______
Andreas Brantelid with friends: Glazunov & Schubert
Once again, the Classical Summer Concerts are delighted to present a range of world-class musicians, performing amongst the Roman gods and heroes in the Glyptotek’s atmospheric Central Hall.
The first concert in this year's program presents a star quintet that has won international praise. They play two central works for five string instruments. Father and son Brantelid and the viola star Nicolas Swensen from Denmark together with Benjamin Schmid from Vienna and Russian/English Alexander Sitkovetsky – a total of five string players of absolute world class!
In the late summer of 1828, Franz Schubert was told that he would soon die of syphilis. With this knowledge, he wrote his last chamber music work: a string quintet. Not as usual with an extra viola coupled to the string quartet, but with an extra cello, which darkens the atmosphere and gives the quintet a particularly rich soundscape. This solution was adopted by the Russian Aleksandr Glazunov when, at only 26 years old, he wrote his quintet full of ingenuity, energy, melodic joy and rustic charm.
