Overview of Earth-Kind and Texas Superstar Programs

Come hear Don Tyler, a Montgomery County Master Gardener since 2019 with a passion for creating gardens and landscapes that works with the challenges of our local climate.

Attendees will learn the basics of the Earth-Kind and Texas Superstar programs and how to incorporate these principles into your garden and landscape.

EarthKind:

• Water conservation – water supply, irrigation system, mulching, rainwater harvesting and proper mowing
• Safe use and handling of fertilizers and pesticides – fertilizers; soil tests; organic compost; pesticides; Integrated Pest Management (IPM): predators, parasitoids, decomposers, pollinator; Integrated W**d Management (IWM): W**d identification, decision-making, control methods, preventative, cultural, mechanical, chemical
• Reduction of yard wastes entering urban landfills
• Landscaping for energy conservation – protection from the sun, protection from the wind
• General – plant selection, pollinator garden, native habitat & design, companion planting
