Join Poet Laureate Simon Armitage for an unmissable poetry reading in Grasmere. The event will take place in St Oswald’s Church, a medieval church on a 7th century site – only a stone’s throw away from Dove Cottage, where former Poet Laureate William Wordsworth wrote some of his greatest poetry.
Simon Armitage is Professor of Poetry at the University of Leeds. A recipient of numerous prizes and awards, his collections include Magnetic Field (2020), Never Good with Horses (2023), Blossomise (2024) and Dwell (2025).
There will be a book signing following the reading. Books and drinks will be on sale throughout the event (cash and card).
Doors open 6.30pm; event start time 7.30pm.

Five free tickets are available for those experiencing financial hardship that would otherwise not be able to attend. This is on a first come first served basis with no questions asked about your situation.
Accompanying carers/personal assistants are admitted free of charge; please select the ‘1 Adult plus Free Carer/Personal Assistant’ option when making a booking.
There is a ramped entrance to the church. There are limited restroom facilities available in a small building across the churchyard (1 standard toilet, 1 accessible toilet).
There are several public car parks in Grasmere within 5-10 minutes walking distance of the church, and limited on-street parking throughout the village.
