Explore the dramatic Southern Fells of the Lake District on this rewarding circuit, taking in Crinkle Crags. This walk offers steep climbs, rocky ridges, and some of the most iconic views in the Langdale valley, including the surrounding peaks of Bowfell, Pike o’ Blisco, and Cold Pike.
Starting from the Old Dungeon Ghyll Hotel in Great Langdale, the route ascends steadily through open fell and rocky paths, passing small tarns and rugged outcrops before reaching the ridge of Crinkle Crags (859 m). The climb introduces walkers to the wild and striking landscapes of the Southern Fells, with the Crinkle Crags ridge offering dramatic undulations and rugged terrain.
The summit ridge provides sweeping panoramas across Great Langdale, Little Langdale, and beyond to the central Lake District fells. From here, walkers can take in the jagged profiles of Bowfell, the Wrynose and Hardknott Passes, and the distinctive peaks of the Southern Fells.
The descent returns via a path that leads back toward Old Dungeon Ghyll, passing through open fell and valleys, completing a circuit that blends challenging climbs with dramatic summit views and a sense of high fell adventure.
