Explore the serene and sweeping fells of the Kentmere and Troutbeck area on this rewarding circuit, taking in Yoke, Ill Bell, and Froswick. This walk offers rolling ridges, broad summits, and far-reaching views across the Lake District, including Windermere, Morecambe Bay, and the surrounding valleys.
Starting from the quiet village of Troutbeck, the route ascends gently to Yoke (706 m), a broad, rounded summit providing sweeping vistas over Kentmere Valley and distant Windermere. This initial climb introduces walkers to the open, grassy landscapes of the Far Eastern Fells and sets the tone for a day of ridge walking.
From Yoke, the path continues along the ridge to Ill Bell (757 m), a more dramatic summit with rocky outcrops and steep flanks. The summit rewards walkers with panoramic views down to Troutbeck, Windermere, and the distant central fells, a highlight for photographers and fell walkers alike.
The route then follows the ridge south-east toward Froswick (720 m), a broad and gently rounded fell offering uninterrupted views across the Kentmere horseshoe and back toward the surrounding valleys. The descent returns to Troutbeck via valley paths, completing a circuit that combines gentle climbs, open ridges, and uninterrupted scenery.
