A walk through the fascinating Coppermines Valley to Red Dell and Levers Water returning by Boulder Valley and the Pudding Stone. Discover the mining history and archaeology of this beautiful valley surrounded by the soaring crags of the Coniston mountain range.
The walk is on quarry roads and obvious paths throughout. It involves some steep ascents and descents on loose stones or grass which can be muddy and/or slippery in poor weather. Visitors must be made aware of the dangers posed by old mine workings and the safe code of conduct in such areas, particularly regarding children and pets.
Grade 4 walks are generally full day walks that include hilly ground and require a reasonable level of fitness. You might encounter climbs up some steeper sections. The surfaces may be rough and uneven, with rocky or muddy sections, and you may also find yourself walking up irregular steps, over stiles or through narrow gates and gaps.
Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather and bring a packed lunch.
