WHAT:
Rock Climbing at Staunton State Park! Come and try out outdoor rock climbing at one of Colorado's best climbing venues! This is an event for beginners, no experience required! No climbing is required either! You may do as much or as little as you would like.
Taught by Chase Popp: American Mountain Guides Association Single Pitch Instructor, and Wilderness First Responder.
EQUIPMENT:
At the bare minimum, you will need a climbing harness, and helmet. Climbing shoes are NOT required. Grippy hiking shoes will also work as well. If you would like to rent climbing gear, oftentimes locations will offer rental packages that include everything you need. REI locations usually offer rentals. If you need extra help or have questions finding a rental, please contact me!
WHAT TO BRING:
Clothing:
• Comfortable, weather-appropriate athletic clothing
• Layers for changing conditions (e.g., light jacket, fleece)
• Rain jacket or windbreaker
• Climbing-appropriate footwear (approach shoes or sturdy sneakers)
• Hat and sunglasses for sun protection
Personal Items:
• Daypack to carry personal gear
• Water (at least 2 liters)
• Snacks and/or lunch
• Sunscreen and lip balm with SPF
• Personal medications (e.g., inhaler, EpiPen)
• Small first aid kit
• Camera or smartphone for photos
Climbing Items:
• Climbing harness, helmet, and shoes
• Chalk bag and chalk (optional)
• Belay device and locking carabiner (optional, provided)
• Climbing gloves (optional, provided)
• Notebook and pen for taking notes
Additional Recommendations:
• Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly
• Inform someone of your plans and expected return time
• Bring a positive attitude and readiness to learn!
