"Steve Mitchell
“He’s his own little orchestra,” says famed Nashville publisher (Taylor Swift, Kenny Chesney, Rascal Flatts) of Nashville/Vancouver Island singer-songwriter Steve Mitchell, whose live show typically features the performer accompanying himself on hard-driving resophonic guitar, a kick drum, a hi-hat, and occasionally a harmonica–all at the same time.
The sound? Imagine six musical rivers–alternative country, country blues, jazz, Seventies rock, soul, and gospel–all flowing together into one powerful current. Now add intimate storytelling and Mitchell’s often free flowing interpretations of tunes by Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, John Prine and Gram Parsons.
A veteran of the fertile White Rock, BC music scene, Mitchell counts among his musical adventures the short-lived but much loved Vancouver Island folk trio Travels with Charley, his own mid-Nineties alt-country unit Yardsale, as well as a six-year stint in Tom and Kalissa Landa’s Juno Award-winning Paperboys. Working on Nashville’s Music Row, Mitchell has written and co-written charting singles with Canadian and American country artists Maddison Krebs, Craig Wayne Boyd, Danika Portz, Matt Rogers, Kassie DePaiva, Trevor Finlay, Chris Henderson, Alex Runions and Manitoba Indigenous artist Desiree Dorion. He’s also recently toured with In Spite of Ourselves: A Celebration of the Music of John Prine as well as recorded Seagrass:
Incidental Ukulele Music for the Salish Sea."
