Lauren, Tennessee
We are pleased to present Lauren Elise Peterson, MS. BC -DMT as she teaches this class on body image, at Dancing at the Bazaar 2025. It is surely a topic of great interest.

While dance can be incredible for body image, ever-changing beauty standards can impact a dancer's relationship with their body, especially over time. As dancers age and experience body changes, our insecurities can get very loud and make dance difficult. In this workshop, Lauren will lead dancers through a discussion on body image issues that can emerge for dancers over their dance careers. Lauren will use her somatic experiential techniques to help dancers learn skills and gain appreciation for their bodies.

Lauren is a board-certified dance/movement therapist specializing in healing body image issues and coping with burnout through somatic techniques. Her belly dance beginnings started in 2003 in Chattanooga, TN, and she immediately found it to be transformative to her relationship to her body.

Since 2011 she has been working in the eating disorder field and currently works as an outpatient therapist, a dance/movement therapist for inpatient and intensive outpatient mental health programs, and a body image and burnout coach. Lauren has a book about healing through movement coming soon, You can follow her at www.laurenelisepeterson.com and @laurenelisepeterson on Instagram and TikTok.

Majda Anwar
Learn the joyous and earthy style that is Saiidi, from the Said region of Egypt. We'll dive into technique that includes the Egyptian folkloric martial art Tahtib, Reda-influenced combos, and modern fusion combos based on cane work. Students should bring bellydance assaya or bamboo cane that is thumb's width and belly button to feet in length. Combinations and improvisational techniques will be taught. We will also discuss the difference in using a bamboo stick vs a curved cane.
