Sunday, September 21 is a big day for the climate movement here in mid-Missouri. Peaceworks' Rally and 5K Walk for the Climate is being combined with local components of Draw the Line, a national climate action mobilization and Sun Day, a national set of events promoting the use of renewable energy, particularly solar power. Both are being held on the same weekend.
This rally will be followed by an optional 5K (~3 mile) walk. Our goal is to bring together allies working for climate action, for peace, for social, economic, racial and gender justice and for a constellation of related concerns, as well as inviting the participation of concerned individuals. The rally will include speakers, music, tabling by co-sponsoring groups and general solidarity.
We are living in a climate emergency that requires urgent action now. We recognize, however, that there are multiple crises impacting people around the world and the environment we all share. We will work to bring these concerns and their intersection to the fore in our organizing.
We will share more info as planning moves forward. If you'd like to play a role in organizing, you are invited to DM us.
Please tell friends! Invite them to rally and walk with you. Note that this is not a race. It's a group walk and all are welcome to join in. Those who are not able to walk this distance are encouraged to walk a distance comfortable for them, or to just participate in the Rally.
