Things That Matter is a free, conversational-style speaker series hosted monthly at the Montminy Gallery inside the Boone County History & Culture Center in Columbia, Missouri. Designed to spark meaningful conversations, this series features real people sharing personal stories that connect us to our community’s past and present.
Join us for the return of this speaker series on Thursday, August 28th at 6:30pm for a talk with Michelle Brooks, an award-winning journalist, researcher, and author of seven books on Jefferson City history. Michelle will dive into the lesser-known—and often darker—chapters of Missouri’s capital city, from lost neighborhoods to true crime stories and buried local legends.
This is a free public event for anyone interested in Mid-Missouri history, Columbia-area events, or simply discovering powerful stories that matter. Perfect for history buffs, families, and curious minds of all ages.
