Joe began his poetic journey from a childhood growing up in an Old Order Mennonite community. Living close to the land on a family farm instilled a deep appreciation and awareness of the natural world around him. Leaving the Mennonite community at age 16 exposed him to a myriad of life experiences and led him through roles of musician, business owner, truckdriver, backpacker, husband, father, and now grandfather! A chance meeting with a retired quaker teacher and writer inspired him to start writing the poetry that had often been a familiar companion through life experiences and times of solitude.
