‘Romantic Masterworks’, a concert of some of the most iconic music of the Romantic era, will be presented by the Symphony Orchestra of Sri Lanka, on July 26th , at 7.00pm, at the Lionel Wendt Theatre.
Comprising Tchaikovsky’s majestic Piano Concerto No. 01, known as much for its technical difficulty as well as its unforgettably beautiful melodies, the programme also includes Rachmaninov’s Adagio from his 2nd Symphony—a breathtakingly nostalgic and emotional work. The concert will open with Johan Svendsen’s celebratory Festival Polonaise, written for the Coronation of King Oscar II and Queen Sophie of Norway in 1873.
This concert is conducted by Dushyanthi Perera, whose dynamic direction has garnered much praise. It will also feature the brilliant young pianist Dhiren Fernando, who made his debut last year performing Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.2.
The concert is sponsored by a Friend of the SOSL, with support from Print Media Sponsors the Wijeya Group, and Electronic Media Sponsors, the Maharaja Group.
Tickets are priced at Rs. 10000, 7500, 6500, 5000, 4000 (reserved) and 2000 (balcony unreserved) and are available at the Lionel Wendt Theatre. WhatsApp 0740670202 to reserve.
