Lux: A Choral Spectrum of Light and Hope

The Colombo Philharmonic Choir opens its Platinum Jubilee Season with Lux: A Choral Spectrum of Light and Hope on Sunday, 1st June 2025, at the Chapel of the Hope of the World, Ladies' College, Colombo.

Join us for an uplifting programme that traces the arc of light—from the first blush of dawn, through the brilliance of midday, to the serenity of dusk—echoing the muse that has inspired poets, painters, and musicians across the ages.

At the heart of the evening stands Morten Lauridsen’s sublime Lux Aeterna, a modern cornerstone of choral literature. Framing this centrepiece are radiant works by Johannes Brahms, Randall Thompson, Healey Willan, Eric Whitacre, and Kim André Arnesen—composers who masterfully illuminate timeless texts with music that explores the interplay of light and shadow.

This concert is dedicated to the memory of our founder, Professor Percival Gerald Cooray (1921–2003), whose vision and passion continue to guide and inspire the Choir.
