We're thrilled to announce Art After Hours, featuring artist Bethany Johnston! This is your chance for a NO COST exhibit in our Downtown Coldwater Studio, complete with captivating runway backdrops.
Bethany Johnston brings a truly unique perspective to her art, stemming from an enriched background in education, including a PhD in Entomology, and over a decade of teaching forensic science, nutrition, and biology at Washington State University. A former research scientist, she seamlessly blends her scientific precision with artistic expression, passionately pursuing her elevated collage art.
"For me, art and science have always been so intricately woven, that it was a natural extension to let the art out, to release the art," Johnston shares. Her collages began as a deeply personal way to visually interpret music, evolving into a diverse body of work inspired by compelling music, striking images, and even custom pieces created from client-provided imagery. Dr. Bethany Johnston's work begins with a mental image inspired by music and the experience of living. Using books and magazines as paint, images that resonate are scissor-cut and assembled piece by piece over several hours, days, and weeks. Each piece features hundreds of upcycled images connected through color, subject, or vibe. All work is custom-sized, ranging in sizes up to runway backdrops.
Johnston's meticulous creative process involves deeply understanding the color palette, tone, and aesthetic of her source materials, allowing each piece to guide her work. Many of her collages are also profoundly personal and "emotionally autobiographical," offering a unique glimpse into her life experiences through abstract narratives.
Johnston’s work stands out for its rich storytelling and profound connections including celebrities and models in the Scottsdale and LA area. Her career has gained significant momentum, with pivotal support from Luxe and City’s Creative Council, establishing her as a compelling voice in contemporary art.
We will also be joined for the evening by local resident artist, Ashley English of Coldwater. Making this an incredible chance to mingle with friends and artist alike. We can't wait to share this exhibit with you!
