A Portmanteau of Poems, Songs, Comedy and other Absolute Nonsense – Warning: May contain traces of Marriage and other Naughtiness!
Alice d'Lumiere, at her own admission, over-writes wildly; having now completed three full-length solo shows: “Illuminating Alice”, “Speaking Out and Fitting In” and “Trans Lady Sings!” with another, “The Literal Translation”, on its way in 2026…
Alice is taking an evening away from her steaming word processor to bring you some favourite moments from her previous shows, interspersed with some brand new material with, unusually for this hyper-productive ego-maniac, some favourite songs & monologues by other creators - plus occasional filth! So shockingly the title does actually make some sense…
Expect dynamic performance poetry, engaging comedy, songs, impersonations, voluminous crinolines, plus guest appearances from some of her regular creative collaborators, with just a touch of Love and Marriage...
A passionate, honest and celebratory show from a mercurial writer/performer; part personal testament, part gender-fluid cabaret.
“Illuminating Alice” and “Speaking Out and Fitting In” were originally co-commission by Colchester Arts Centre and Norwich Arts Centre, plus Alice’s full Trans Tetralogy has been supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
THE PERFORMER: Alice d'Lumiere, is a gender-fluid East Anglian performer who grew up in Colchester. They are a theatre-maker, playwright and performance poet, and in two genders a regular contributor to the regional Arts scene, possessing a long-standing creative partnership with Colchester Arts Centre and more recently a burgeoning artistic relationship with renowned producing theatre the Mercury. Alice has also been a regular performer and compere for Colchester Pride since its inception in 2017. All of Alice's artistic output involves an element of personal challenge; playing with preconceptions and pushing herself to learn new and unlikely performance skills; from close-up magic to aerial hoop. Her last performance challenge, "The Trans Lady Sings", involves attempting to become an opera singer with no previous musical experience and was born out of a "Developing Your Creative Practice" grant supported by Arts Council England's programme. The development of this work into a full touring show has also been supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England. In 2023 Alice took her show “Speaking Out and Fitting In!” to Le Printemps Anglophone Festival in Avignon for her very first European performance; which led, in a roundabout way, to her forthcoming challenge, “The Literal Translation”; which involves her trying to overcome another childhood fear; speaking publically in another language…
