SCHEDULE

The Arch at 60 with Johnny Rabbitt
Tuesday, August 12 | 11am

Johnny Rabbitt returns to celebrate St. Louis’s iconic Gateway Arch on its 60th anniversary! Join him for a special program honoring this architectural marvel, exploring its history, significance, and lasting impact on our city. Johnny Rabbitt will present a tour through time of our great riverfront starting from the days of Laclede and Chouteau to the development of the Jefferson Expansion Memorial project. Then MHS Public Historian Andrew Wanko will guide us through the public competition to design a monument that would honor the city’s role as the Gateway to the West, and finally author and historian John Guenther will talk about the construction of the Arch, the civil rights fight led by Percy Green, the revitalization of downtown following the completion of the monument, and how the Arch continues to shape St. Louis’s skyline and culture.

Before or after the program, check out the Gateway Arch Park Foundation’s resource table to learn about what you can experience at the Arch and in the surrounding downtown area today. Following the presentation, John Guenther will be at our Sold on St. Louis shop to sign his book, "The Gateway Arch: An Illustrated Timeline." Books will be available for purchase.
