On Friday July 19, 1963 at 5:05 am, the Cicero Fire Department was alerted for a reported Barn Fire in the area of Route 31 / Lakeshore Road.
Firefighter Robert Sharp, a Firefighter for two weeks answered the alarm with his father Firefighter Raymond Sharp a 15 year veteran of the department at the time.
While crews were operating on-scene, in attempt to move a hay conveyor to gain better access to extinguish the fire, the unit overturned falling on Firefighter Robert Sharp.
As crews raced to remove the hay conveyor that was pinning Firefighter Sharp (one of them being his father Raymond) he was removed a short time later and transported by Moyers Corners Ambulance to St. Joseph's Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6:05 am an hour after the initial call.
As each year passes, it is not only difficult on the Sharp family, however his extended family at the fire department who watched Robert grow up and were on-scene during this tragedy.
Do you have a memory of Robert, if so, please share for those who didn't have the opportunity to know him can understand what a great person he was.
