The Rogers County Cherokee Association (RCCA) invites the public to its monthly community gathering on Sunday, August 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the RCCA Community Building in Claremore, Oklahoma.
This month’s special guest is Perry VanBuskirk, a Cherokee Nation citizen and respected cultural presenter, who will be showcasing Traditional Cherokee Weaponry. Attendees will learn about the history, significance, and function of these weapons, followed by a live demonstration. VanBuskirk’s presentation highlights the rich cultural traditions of the Cherokee people and promises to be both educational and engaging for all ages.
Doors will open at 1:00 p.m., and a meal will be provided. Door prize drawings will take place throughout the event.
At 1:45 p.m., the meal will conclude in time for the 2:00 p.m. business meeting, which will include officer vacancy updates, budget discussions, and time for remarks or questions directed to any Cherokee Nation Tribal Council members who may be present. Copies of the meeting agenda are available from the RCCA Secretary.
Following the business portion, the focus will shift to VanBuskirk’s demonstration. This hands-on cultural session offers a unique opportunity to connect with Cherokee heritage and is open to all attendees.
The RCCA Cherokee Community Choir will meet immediately after the meeting to rehearse with Interim Choir Director Cara Cowan Watts.
This family-friendly event is free and open to the public. RCCA encourages Cherokee citizens and community members to get involved—annual membership is available for $10 per individual or $25 per household. Cherokee Nation citizens aged 18 and older are eligible for General Membership; others may join as Associate Members.
