NEW Course! Only 6 spaces available.
Come and join us for a series of 4 afternoons of pottery making in the woods with Rick Graves. Rick is a very experienced ceramicist who has taught in schools and evening classes throughout his life. He specialises in wheel thrown stoneware but loves all kinds of clay working.
This course is an introduction to working with clay by hand. The sessions will take place on SUNDAY 5th, SATURDAY 11th, SUNDAY 12th and SATURDAY 18th October. Ideally you would attend all 4 but if there is one date you cannot make there is an option to buy a 3 week block (please let us know in advance which session you can’t attend).
It consists of four 2.5-hour sessions will teach users all the basic techniques for hand-building in clay, as well as visualising and developing ideas. One piece of work will be completed during each session, with the potential for another, constructed in stages during the course.
All the basic techniques will be taught for hand-building; pinching, slabbing, coiling, and a creative approach to press-moulding.
You could make a wide variety of items:
Pots for everyday use: jugs, mugs, bowls, dishes, containers, vases and planters.
Figurative/sculptural: faces, heads, creatures, monsters, etc.
Anything else you fancy!
The final session will be devoted to surface decoration.
Pots will then be fired once before collection.
Spaces are limited so early booking is essential. Adults and older children only. The price includes all materials, equipment, firing and glaze and also refreshments – hot drinks and a slice of homemade cake.
Older children are welcome if accompanied by a parent. We’d recommend 12 and up but this isn’t a hard & fast rule so please get in touch if you have a younger child who’d like to come with you.
