Po 128 letech si v Chomutově zopakujeme akci, kterou tehdy navštívil spisovatel Karl May. Výtěžek z letošní Gerümpel-Ausstellung, tedy výstavy harampádí, podpoří Parent Project z Droužkovic, který pomáhá rodinám s dětmi se svalovou dystrofií.
📜 Příběh
V neděli 11. července 1897 uspořádali studenti chomutovského gymnázia zvláštní dobročinnou akci: výstavu harampádí.
Obyvatelé města nosili staré, nepotřebné předměty, které studenti přetvářeli a dávali jim nové názvy i významy.
Tak se třeba z obyčejného koštěte stala „puška medvědobijka“. Vše se pak prodávalo s nadsázkou a humorem a výtěžek posloužil na stavbu nové Turnhalle – tělocvičny, dnešní sportovní haly.
Výstava by možná upadla v zapomnění, nebýt toho, že ji navštívil Karl May. Slavný spisovatel přispěl do sbírky a přátelům do Hamburku poslal pohlednici s verši, kde s úsměvem zmiňoval právě chomutovskou „výstavu harampádí“.
🎭 A dnes?
O 128 let později si dáme repete.
Výstava Harampádí / Gerümpelaufstellung / Junk Exhibition promění chomutovský prostor Kulisárna v živé tržiště, kde věci dostanou nové významy a vše ožije improvizovaným divadlem.
Předměty vystavené i prodávané během dne zpracují účastníci a účastnice workshopu You May Help.

Nach 128 Jahren wiederholt Komotau eine Aktion, die damals auch der Schriftsteller Karl May besuchte. Der Erlös der diesjährigen Gerümpel-Ausstellung unterstützt Parent Project in Droužkovice, eine Organisation, die Familien mit Kindern mit Muskeldystrophie hilft.
📜 Geschichte
Am Sonntag, den 11. Juli 1897 organisierten Schüler des Komotauer Gymnasiums eine besondere Wohltätigkeitsaktion: eine Gerümpel-Ausstellung.
Die Einwohner der Stadt brachten alte, unnötige Gegenstände, die von den Schülern umgestaltet und mit neuen Namen und Bedeutungen versehen wurden. So konnte z. B. aus einem einfachen Besen ein „Bärengewehr“ werden. Verkauft wurde alles mit Humor, und der Erlös floss in den Bau einer neuen Turnhalle – der heutigen Sporthalle.
Die Ausstellung wäre vielleicht längst vergessen, hätte sie nicht Karl May besucht. Der berühmte Schriftsteller spendete für die Sammlung und schickte seinen Freunden in Hamburg eine Postkarte mit Versen, in denen er mit einem Lächeln auf die Komotauer „Gerümpel-Ausstellung“ verwies.
🎭 Und heute?
128 Jahre später gibt es ein Wiedersehen.
Die Gerümpel-Ausstellung / Výstava harampádí / Junk Exhibition verwandelt den Raum Kulisárna in Komotau in einen lebendigen Marktplatz, wo Dinge neue Bedeutungen bekommen und alles durch improvisiertes Theater zum Leben erwacht.
Die ausgestellten und verkauften Gegenstände werden von den Teilnehmer:innen des Workshops You May Help gestaltet.

Junk Exhibition
After 128 years, Chomutov will repeat an event once visited by writer Karl May. The proceeds of this year’s Junk Exhibition (Gerümpel-Ausstellung) will support Parent Project in Droužkovice, which helps families with children living with muscular dystrophy.
📜 Story
On Sunday, 11 July 1897, students of the Chomutov Gymnasium organized a unique charity event: a junk exhibition.
Citizens brought old, unwanted items, which the students transformed and gave new names and meanings. An ordinary broom could become a “bear-hunting rifle.” Everything was sold with humour, and the proceeds went to the construction of a new Turnhalle – today’s sports hall.
The exhibition might have been forgotten if not for Karl May, who visited it. The famous writer donated and sent a postcard to friends in Hamburg, with verses smilingly referring to Chomutov’s “junk exhibition.”
🎭 And today?
128 years later, we do it again.
The Junk Exhibition / Gerümpel-Ausstellung / Výstava harampádí will transform the Kulisárna space in Chomutov into a lively marketplace, where objects gain new meanings and everything comes alive through improvised theatre.
The exhibited and sold objects will be created by participants of the You May Help workshop.
