About the event

Unveiling of a new blue plaque in Chippenham

COMING SOON.... A new blue plaque in Chippenham. To be unveiled on Tuesday the 17th of June 2025 at 6.45pm.

You are invited to witness this new piece of local history, marking Chippenham's part in the life of KING ALFRED THE GREAT.

The plaque will be situated on the outside wall of Chippenham Museum in the Market Place, and unveiled by Town Mayor Councillor Kathryn Macdermid.

After the unveiling, Chairman of the Civic Society, Mike Stone will give an illustrated talk in St Andrews Church on 'The Life and Times of King Alfred the Great. Doors 7.0pm - Start 7.30pm

From 4.0pm the Viking and Anglo-Saxon re-enactor group, Manaraefan, will be demonstrating their crafts in the Market Place.
