About the event

The Third Annual: University of Chicago Black Conference
The University of Chicago Black Council invites the Black UChicago and the Chicagoland community for a day of conversation and connection.

About this Event

University of Chicago 3rd Annual Black Conference

The University of Chicago’s Annual Black Conference is a powerful gathering that brings together students, alumni, faculty, and members of the Hyde Park and South Side communities for a day of thoughtful dialogue, reflection, and collaboration. This one-day event explores the rich histories and shared futures of Black UChicago, illuminating the vital connections between campus life and the surrounding community.

Building on the ongoing Black House Campaign, spearheaded by the Organization of Black Students (OBS) and the African and Caribbean Student Association (ACSA) since 2022, this year’s conference seeks to further mobilize support for the establishment of a Black House: a dedicated space for connection, empowerment, and cultural celebration. Through panels, workshops, and interactive discussions, participants will reflect on the evolving experiences of Black students and community members while envisioning a shared path forward.

At a time when DEI is being politicized and challenged across the country, we’re asking deeper questions: How do we build spaces of true belonging for Black students? How do we bridge the campus and the South Side in ways that are honest, equitable, and lasting? If you're part of a nonprofit or a South Side organization doing the work — and you're looking to build relationships with the next generation of Black leaders at UChicago — this is the room to be in.

In partnership with UChicago’s Association of Black Alumni and several undergraduate and graduate organizations, this year’s conference will continue the conversation on creating spaces of inclusivity, community-building, and solidarity across campus and beyond.

This in-person event will take place at the Ida Noyes Third Floor Theatre at 1212 East 59th Street, Chicago, IL 60637. Immerse yourself in a day filled with thought-provoking discussions and engaging workshops.
