Welcome to the 7th Hampton Roads Whalers Alumni Hockey Game! It's time once again to come together and celebrate the life of "Our Boy" Jerry and the lives of others apart of our Whaler Nation Family!!! This event is open to the public! If you would like to see you favorite former Whaler dawn the Blue and Green again, this is the event for you! This year I hope we can get more people to play and to attend the event! So if you are interested in playing or have any other questions please contact "Jack" at the alumni page!
We are here to honor the memory of all our Whaler brothers who are no longer with us. However, we play and raise money for greatest Whalers ever to lace them up, Gerald "Jerry" Owen. He lost his battle to Esophageal Cancer on January 23rd 2017, at the age of 25. Our goal is to raise as much money as we can for "Youth on Ice" a scholarship fund in honor of "our boy" Jerry.
** To participate in the game itself you must have played for the JUNIOR program at one point, pay the donation fee (Fee TBD) and you must have wore the blue and green with pride and represented the organization in a positive way.
To attend and watch this event will be donation based. Any little bit is appreciated and all will be donated to the "Youth on Ice Scholarship."
**TIMES MAY VARY & SUBJECT TO CHANGE**
4:00pm - Arrival
4:00-6:45pm – "Tale-Gate" at “Whale Tales”
7:00-9:00pm – Alumni Game
10:00- whenever – After party at Big Woodys Great Bridge
The “Gerald Owen” memorial scholarship was started 7 years ago to honor Gerald’s memory. If you donated last year we hope you will again. If you are new to the cause any amount, $5, $10, $20, helps. We all tend to have good intentions when things like this happen then quickly forget. LETS Not FORGET and keep Gerald’s legacy alive!!
Please go to youthonice.net and click on “donations”. It is 100% tax deductible. Those of you who knew Jerry know what he meant to you as a person and teammate. We’re asking our alumni to not only donate, but to share this with friends, family, and teammates to help spread the word.
There will be food, drinks at the rink bar "Majors" and of course hockey! So come out and have a good time and have the chance to see some of your "old" favorite Whalers take the ice again in the Blue and Green!
