The Plumbline - “a vertically directed line guided by gravity, which suspends the joints in anatomically correct alignment.”
The Plumbline Project will be a two week dance intensive providing aspiring young dancers, rising 5th - 12th grade intensive dance education from professional dance artists, performance opportunities, and a moment of joy and reflection for the greater community attending the performances.
Under the direction of Ballet Esprit’s Founding Director and Revolutionary Principles of Movement Certified Instructor, Sarah Yvonne along with faculty member Grace Ragland, guest instructors Jane Alexandria King, Melissa Miller and others (TBA), participants will experience a combination of dance technique classes including classical ballet, classical modern, pointe and variations, and neoclassical choreography throughout the two weeks. Additional workshops in injury prevention with Pilates, Progressing Ballet Technique, Yoga and meditation, cross training, conditioning, dance history, and nutrition in the curriculum provide the holistic approach within our collaborative values. Staging, theatrics and costuming exposure is included with stage presence, acting and pantomime during rehearsals and performance.
Following technique classes, rehearsals fill the end of their day, learning and creating choreography with faculty and guests. The experience concludes with a celebration of what's been learned in an outdoor performance at The Hunter Museum of American Art, shared freely with the community.
