Everyone must be signed up to volunteer at least 5 days prior to the shift. This is very important so as to ensure that the Food Bank is prepared ahead of time with projects for the quantity of volunteers attending. To “Sign Up”, create an account (if you do not already have one), and complete an individual reservation. Be sure you click on the Moms for Social Justice group when prompted.
For kids under 18, you may use the parent email address. just do not use email for each person's username, and when you enter the birthdate, you will be asked for a parent's name and email. After account is completed, a digital minor waiver will be emailed to the parent. Once the waiver is signed you will be able to sign them up for the event. Make sure you sign out of each account before clicking on the link to make a new account.
To volunteer at the Food Bank, you MUST wear tennis shoes and bring a water bottle. No flip flops, sandals, crocs, clogs, slides, or shoes of the sort. Foot must be completely covered by shoe in order to volunteer in warehouse.
Activities: Typical volunteer activities include sorting food, re-packaging bulk food, packing food boxes, packing Sack Packs, and performing scheduled sanitation tasks (sweeping and mopping).
Attire: Closed-toe shoes are required (no sandals or flip flops). We recommend dressing in comfortable and casual clothes suitable for the season. Items that are not appropriate include revealing clothing or dangling accessories. Gloves are encouraged but not required.
Commitment: Orientation begins promptly at 5:00 pm.
Safety: We invite volunteers into our facility to help fight hunger. In order to maintain a safe environment, volunteers are expected to comply with all rules, follow the directions given by station leaders, and immediately report any accidents to a staff member.
Accommodation Needs: This opportunity includes standing, bending, and potentially lifting 25-30 pounds. Please let us know if you have accommodation needs.
Age Requirement: Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to participate. All volunteers--to include small children-- must be registered for the volunteer event. Volunteers under the age of 16 are required to be accompanied by an adult chaperone. A digitally signed permission form is required for minors to register for an event.
