A Special Night of Celtic and Irish Music Feat. Southern Irish Dance
Thursday night, the craic will be mighty! After our soul session, join us for a true Irish session with The Sternwheelers, masters of high-energy jigs, reels, and heartfelt ballads. The night gets even livelier with a special performance from Southern Irish Dance, our local Irish dance troupe, who’ll take the floor in full flight alongside the band. It’s an evening made for lovers of Celtic and Irish music, pint in hand and feet tapping ‘til closing time.
Born out of the rowdy warmth of the Irish session scene, The Sternwheelers are a merry gathering of musicians who’ve spent their lives steeped in tunes, tales, and the crackle of good company. Patrick Martin’s path ran from rock stages to country roads before finding its true home in the ringing strings of the bouzouki. Sean Cunningham grew up in his father’s New York pub, cutting his teeth on Pogues tunes and learning the ways of the whistle and flute from some of the finest hands in Irish music. Josh Jernigan, a lifelong drummer with a keen ear for rhythm, found the bodhrán and never looked back, driving the heartbeat of sessions wherever he could find them.
Joined at times by dear friends like master piper Fiachra O’Regan of Galway, fiddle and concertina ace Claire Shirey, and Dublin-born uilleann piper Pat D’Arcy, the band blends the soul of Irish tradition with the grit of American roots. Their music sails the Atlantic in both directions, where jigs and reels meet country ballads, and songs of longing, mischief, and the emigrant’s heart are poured out with equal measure of fire and tenderness. Whether reimagining a pub classic, spinning a fresh tune of their own, or firing off a set of session reels, The Sternwheelers play with the joy of friends who know the craic is best when it’s shared.
