Christmas at The Paramount

Join us for Charlottesville’s beloved holiday tradition featuring Camille Saint-Saëns’ radiant Christmas Oratorio. Composed in 1858 at only 23 years-old, this oratorio is intimate and gentle, with a pastoral, almost hymn-like character. The work blends the grandeur of Baroque oratorios with Romantic-era emotionalism. It begins with a single soloist and intimate chamber-like orchestration, gradually adding more soloists, and then bringing in the full choir at key moments with a significant part for the organ and beautiful, atmospheric writing for harp and string orchestra.
