Hi Charlotte Urban Sketchers,
In 1853, after decades of using Old Settler's Cemetery in uptown as the primary burial place for Charlotte citizens, the city created Elmwood Cemetery, a new, "rural-style" cemetery north west of uptown. If you haven't visited Elmwood before, think lots of trees, green rolling hills, with a primo city skyline rising behind this park-like setting. Join us for sketching at Elmwood Cemetery on Sunday, October 12th at 11am.
Whether you're a beginner sketcher or a seasoned pro artist, you'll love coming out and drawing with USKCharlotte because you'll practice sketching from life, meet other artists, and explore a unique spot in Charlotte!
Order of events:
11am - Meet and greet just inside the entrance gate on West 6th Steet. Address for GPS: 700 W 6th St
11:10-12:45pm - Explore, find a spot, sketch!
12:45-1pm - Regroup back at the entrance gate for a sketchbook throw down (informal, fun critique)
Parking:
There’s metered street parking on many streets around the cemetery. There's also a couple of paid lots nearby: one is couple blocks away from cemetery at 600 W 8th St and another is Gateway Village Parking at 700 W Trade St.
Things to bring:
- something to sketch with (markers, pens, pencils, colored pencils)
- something to sketch on (paper, sketchbook, ancient parchment scroll)
Optional: a folding outdoor stool, a hat, sunscreen, bug spray
