A riotous collection of one-act plays, MEET & GREET explores the absurdities of performance, identity, and ambition in the world of casting calls and callbacks.
The lineup includes:
● Hamilton Audition by Susan Lambert Hatem - Award-winning playwright, producer, and director whose work has been seen Off-Broadway and nationwide.
A well-meaning white director tries to cast an all-female Hamilton, but she doesn’t know enough Black women to fill the roles. Enter a gospel singer with no acting experience and a lot of questions.
• The Job Interview by Don Zolidis - One of the most produced playwrights in American school theater.
Two hopefuls face off in a soul-crushing job interview that grows more absurd by the minute, with corporate jargon and fragile egos spiraling out of control.
● Meet & Greet by Stan Zimmerman (nominated for Writers Guild of America Award for Best Comedy Episode - The Golden Girls and Roseanne - and writer for Gilmore Girls) and Christian McLaughlin (Married... With Children, Desperate Housewives).
Four aging actresses clash at a sitcom audition, igniting old rivalries and comic meltdowns. It’s a backstage free-for-all full of zingers, shade, and laugh-out-loud moments.
The cast of MEET & GREET features Charlotte favorites Marla Brown, Marsha Perry, Chloe Shade, Stephanie DiPaolo, Anne Lambert, Nasha Shandri, Joanna Gerdy, Lane Morris, Rahman Williams, and Tommy Prudenti.
Charlotte audiences will have a rare opportunity to meet two of the playwrights—Stan Zimmerman and Susan Lambert Hatem—in person at the Opening Night performance on Thursday, September 4. Both playwrights will be a part of a live Talk-back immediately following the show, and Stan will be at a pop-up book signing of his memoir, The Girls: From Golden to Gilmore, at 5 p.m. in the COB lobby at the VAPA Center.
