Join professional photographer and tour leader Colin Hocking, LRPS, as he shares with you the tips, tools, and thoughts of how to elevate your photography from that of a casual ‘shooter’ to one that makes every push of the shutter release button count!
During his presentation you’ll learn how you can raise your game to think about the shots you want to achieve before taking them, while learning the technical aspects of composition, white balance, and exposure, along with the actual settings he uses and why. He’ll also share with you a few of the Professional Photographers of America’s 12 Elements of Award Winning Images so you’ll know what a good image looks like and how to achieve it!
After the lecture, join Colin on a photo walk of the Drayton Hall grounds so you can practice those tips and techniques he just shared with you. All levels are welcome, although the ability to change the exposure controls on your camera is advised.
Please bring your camera, charged batteries, sunscreen, water, and mosquito repellant.
Colin has a BSc in Photo Science, and started his career in photography as the owner of a 1 hour photo lab and has subsequently had more than 20 years as a freelance photographer. He has shot for magazines, commercial/portrait clients, and leads wildlife and bird photography one day workshops in the Low Country, as well as workshops overseas. He is a Licentiate of the Royal Photographic Society, runs a photo club, is a member of the PPA, and President of the Coastal Master Naturalists Association, where he teaches photography courses for the SC Statewide Master Naturalist Association.
This is a general session about photography, so no cameras are necessary, but a willingness to learn and a notepad and pen will be helpful!
