CSA cooking class. Building flavor and maximizing our farm shares.

Together we'll open our Summer Harvest Box from the Southwest Washington Food Hub. As we explore the contents, we'll take advantage of our hive-mind and share all of our favorite ways to prepare them. After discussions we'll move to the Grist demonstration kitchen and prepare dishes with our findings. We’ll incorporate everything offered at Grist. We'll including how to use whole spices, how to cook pulses, different rice, lentils and more. We'll focus on cooking this natural food, naturally. Building flavor with nothing packaged or pre-made. This is cooking with the intention to enhance and highlight the natural flavors, textures and nutritional values. We'll incorporate old world cooking techniques such as making stock(bone broth), using fresh herbs and many other "basics" of preparing a meal in a kitchen. Every step will be guided by safe food handling "best practices". This is not about wearing gloves, this is about; temperatures, food storage and safe handling.
