Donald G. Mattingly of Cedar Hill, Missouri, was born November 30, 1952 in Wilhelmina, Missouri to John and Ann (nee Birmingham) Mattingly and entered into rest Saturday, December 28, 2024 in Fenton, Missouri at the age of 72 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Ann (nee Birmingham) Mattingly; siblings, Helen LeMon, Agnes Geitz and Paul Mattingly.
He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Patti (nee Wittenbrink) Mattingly; son, Paul Mattingly; stepchildren, Robyn (Kalob) Patient, Tracie (Brian) King, Christina Robles and Edward Jr. (Jackie) Rollberg; sixteen grandchildren; one great grandchild; siblings, Gloria Mattingly, Butch (Mary) Mattingly, Thomas (Tammy) Mattingly, Beth Mattingly, Terri (Jeff) Mattingly, Peggy Mattingly and Tracy (Rich) Sigmund; along with numerous other extended family and friends.
Don loved people and he considered everyone he met a friend. He was an active member of the Cedar Hill Elks #2678 and the AMVETS Post 30 in Cedar Hill. His greatest passion was helping Veterans in need.
2015 Don became a member of the Meramec Arnold Elks #2372, and then in 2019 he transferred to Cedar Hill Elks #2678. In 2022 he was elected and served as their Exalted Ruler.
He served on the East Central District Veterans Committee from 2019-2024. In late 2022 he had a vision to create a Missouri Elks Veterans Challenge Coin and enlisted Miky Balta to bring his vision to life. Mike and Debbie Belavich helped with protocol issues and to fine-tune the final design. It was presented to the State Association and received final approval for the design March 2024. The first Coin was presented to State President, Jim Ross in June 2024. He also dedicated numerous hours on the Annual AMVETS Post 30 Golf Tournaments held at Andrea Politte's Fore Honor Golf Course.
In 2024 he was elected President of the Cedar Elks Riders Association, the first Elks Riders Association in the State of Missouri in which he was also a Charter Member.
His former employment was at McDonnell-Douglas, the Dept of the Army's AVSCOM/ATCOM, and the Dept of Defense, DCMA. He did three six-month tours for the Dept of Defense as a civilian in Kuwait and Iraq.
Don was a Veteran of the US Air Force.
