Learn all the basics of pressure canning and freezing at a Food Preservation Workshop on Thursday, Sept 4th, from 4:00-8:00. The workshop, offered at St. Patrick’s Church in Cedar Falls, is part of the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Preserve the Taste of Summer program. Jill Weber, a health and human sciences educator with ISU Extension and Outreach, will lead the workshop.
During the hands-on workshop, participants will:
· Learn the basics of pressure canning and safely freezing food
· Hear the most up-to-date canning and freezing recommendations
· Make and can green beans
· Take home and enjoy a jar of green beans that they canned
“These workshops are fun and helpful for beginning canners as well as experienced canners. We will provide the most up-to-date science and guidelines for pressure canning,” said Jill Weber, workshop instructor.
“For example, a past participant was surprised to learn that it’s important to adjust processing time based on elevation, even in a state as flat as Iowa.”
The cost of this hands-on workshop is $50.00.
