Danielle Funiciello Presents “19th Century Military Medicine in Oswego”

On Monday, September 8th at 12:30pm, join us as we welcome Danielle Funiciello, Interpretive Programs Assistant at Fort Ontario State Historic Site, for her interactive program, “19th Century Military Medicine in Oswego.”

Dressed in the garb of Oswego-local Dr. Mary Walker, the only female US Medal of Honor recipient to date, Danielle will discuss medicine as it was practiced during and after the Civil War. She will share Dr. Walker’s tenure as a surgeon in the American Civil War; roles and tasks within the Army Medical Department through the lens of the Veteran’s Reserve Corps stationed at Fort Ontario from 1868-69; and some interesting anecdotes about the advancement of medicine during the 1800s. Danielle Funiciello holds her MA in Public History from University at Albany SUNY and is currently a PhD Candidate in History at the same institution. Her presentation will be interactive with questions encouraged and lots of reproduction medical equipment to see and some to touch.

Danielle has worked in the museum field with since 2012, when she began as an interpreter at Schuyler Mansion State Historic Site.

This event is free and open to the public. The presentation will be held in South Cottage at Lorenzo State Historic Site.
