John Cheong-Holdaway is a creative producer, and musician based in Melbourne. He began working full-time in the arts in 2022 after nearly 20 years as a policy economist in energy and infrastructure, much of which was spent in Indonesia.

John works at the nexus of community and art music, with a passion for introducing audiences to new sounds and experiences, and creating radically inclusive spaces for intergenerational, intercultural collaboration.

John is the Creative Producer at Gamelan DanAnda, a Balinese gamelan orchestra in Melbourne. In this role he is presenting traditional music and dance in a wide range of new contexts including at the Melbourne Recital Centre, and major festivals in Victoria and interstate, and creating radical new fusion works in genres as diverse as hip hop and electro-jazz-fusion.

John is an active gigging and recording musician in various bands and projects in genres from kids punk to koplo.
