So many edible and medicinal plants grow right out your front door! Learn how to identify plants you can snack on while hiking. We will cover defining characteristics, habitat/distribution, edible or medicinal use, seasonal availability, and ethics of foraging your own food and medicine.
Chef Leah has been active in plant identification since her youth. Her mother started in the Forest Service 36 years ago as a Range Conservationist, advising ranchers and other land managers alike of proper utilization of the land. Leah carried this knowledge into years of 4-H range judging, WyRED camps, and even into two National Range Judging competitions. After joining the food service industry as a career path, Leah realized how much of the plant life that grows around here can be utilized to provide unique flavor and nutrition.
Class Held In Person Casper, WY Specific Location TBD Weather Dependent
Student must sign a waiver to participate in the class.
Student is responsible for bringing closed toed shoes, weather appropriate apparel (i.e. hats, sunshirt, raincoat, etc...), Sunscreen/bug spray, water bottle, note taking supplies, and transportation to the event location. Optional to bring items: pocket plant press, plant collecting bags, gloves, tools, camera/camera phone with protective case, hiking sticks, backpack, and other useful items.
