Spoker Ride FAQ:

What is CVTA?
The Carson Valley Trails Association is a non profit volunteer-run organization that builds and maintains the 66 (give or take) miles of public non-motorized use trails in the Carson Valley. CVTA is supported largely by membership dues and donations.

Where will the event take place?
James Lee Memorial Park is located in Indian Hills. The address is 3394 James Lee Park Road, Carson Cirt, Nevada. Check-in will be located in the cul-de-sac past the restrooms. Parking is plentiful and free. For more information and a map of the park see https://visitcarsonvalley.org/business-directory/2153-2/

What time should I arrive?
Check-in and walk-in registrations will begin at 9am. We will start the ride about 10am. Food and drink vendors will be set up by 11am. Winners will be announced about 1pm. The event will end about 2pm.

How difficult is the ride?
The course is a ten mile loop consisting of mostly rolling hills on well groomed singletrack trail beginning and ending at James Lee Park in Indian Hills. There is one moderately steep climb early in the ride, but it gets easier after that. A few hairpin turns, some sandy spots, and one small rocky area are the only technical challenges. There are beautiful views of the mountains and valleys along the way. The course will be open meaning you may pass other cyclists, hikers, dog walkers, and maybe even equestrian users on the trail. Please remember to Slow and Say Hello https://carsonvalleytrails.org/?page_id=34749 as you pass these other users so everyone has a safe and enjoyable experience on the trail.

Will there be help along the way?
In addition to resources at the start/finish, you will pass three aid stations on the Spoker Ride route. They will offer at minimum shade, water, water bottles, electrolyte packets, bike pumps, and first aid supplies. They will also be punching your scorecard so be sure to stop at each one!x

Is this a race?
No, this is not a race. We will not be timing you and there are no prizes for finishing fast. Prizes will be awarded for poker hands. We encourage participants to take their time on the trail, enjoy the ride, the views, and to Slow and Say Hello to fellow trail users. https://carsonvalleytrails.org/?page_id=34749

But I'm a really fast rider and ten miles is not much. Can I do second lap?
You can start a little early and do the loop twice if you want to go fast or add more mileage, however aid station support will end after the sweeper passes so you may be on your own for a second lap. Be sure to turn in your scorecard before heading out on that second lap and be back before we announce the winners!

What if I don't know how to play poker?
That's okay! You draw a card at each of five stations and get a hole punched on your score card. At the end a local card shark affectionately known as Ace will judge the winning hands according to WSoP rules. Jokers are wild and you can purchase extra poker hands on site at the event to increase your chances of winning. The top three winning hands will get prize packages valued collectively at over $1800!

What kind of prizes do the winners get?
We have some amazing prize packages consisting of cash, merchandise and gift certificates from local sponsors. Our sponsors for the 2025 Spoker Ride are NVORA, Win's Wheels, The Chop Shop Hair Garage, Big Daddy's Bike and Brew, Above the Bar Tattoo, Battle Born Wine and Whiskey, True Bliss Skincare and Wellness, Truckee Flannel Company, and Bike Habitat.

What will be there to eat and drink?
We will have food vending by Bubbly's Kitchen and beverages by Double Barrel Draft Wagon. See their menus at: https://www.facebook.com/Bubblyskitchen01/ and https://www.facebook.com/doublebarreldraftwagon

Can you take cash or credit?
We hope to be able to take credit, but wireless payments are dependent upon cell signal. Cash is a safer bet. Same goes for the food and beverage vendors.
