About the event

Show Them No Mercy: Finding Jesus in the Divine Violence of the Old Testament.
Ever read the Old Testament and thought, “I thought God was full of love—so why does He sometimes seem to command violence?”
If you’ve wrestled with that question, you’re not alone—and this discussion is for you.

Join us for a thoughtful and engaging evening open to anyone interested in understanding the Bible more deeply, especially those difficult and often troubling passages of Scripture.

We’re excited to welcome Dr. Rick Wadholm Jr., who will guide us through this topic, answer your questions, and help us grow in our understanding of both Scripture and the heart of God.

We’d love to have you join us!

Bio:
Rick Wadholm Jr wrote his PhD (Bangor University, Wales) on “A Theology of the Spirit in the Former Prophets: A Pentecostal Perspective” (published in 2018 with CPT Press). Rick is married, has four children and two grandchildren (one more on the way this fall), and is an ordained minister. He has pastored for 22 years (pastoring Assemblies of God, Mennonite General Conference, Reformed Church of America, and United Methodist congregations in the upper Midwest) as well as being an itinerant preacher, has served numerous schools globally since 2012, and is committed to global mission work (ministering in 18countries and recruiting Christian workers for ministry among unreached peoples). He is currently Associate Professor of Old Testament at Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, visiting professor of Old Testament at Asia Pacific Theological Seminary, and a visiting professor of several other global seminaries and universities. Rick was the founding and Executive Editor of The Pentecostal Educator, the e-journal of the World Alliance for Pentecostal Theological Education, from 2013-2019, and is the current Book Review Editor of the Canadian-American Theological Review as well as Vice-President of the Canadian-American Theological Association. His publications include four books, numerous journal, dictionary, and encyclopedia articles, along with chapters on Pentecostal literary-theological readings of Scripture, Pentecostal preaching, and Pentecostal higher education. He has also been a translator and translation consultant for two English translations of the Bible. He is currently completing a Pentecostal commentary on First Kings (with Brill Press) and a book with Baker Academic, The Spirit Abides: Rehearing the Spirit in the Old Testament.
