Discover the wonders of wildlife all around you by learning about local bird behavior and beauty in this two-part, cross-farm series.

Get ready to observe curious behaviors, smile at splendid songs, and gain simple, practical tips to make your own space bird-friendly.

Designed for all ages and experience levels, this two-part workshop invites you to explore two different landscapes as we learn why birds are attracted to specific features on farmlands. You'll build confidence in identifying birds and understanding their behaviors—no binoculars required! Along the way, you’ll gain simple tools to make your outdoor spaces more inviting to birds, creating a deeper connection to nature right at home. Whether you're brand new to birding or simply curious, you’ll leave feeling more aware and empowered to welcome birds into your world.

  • What’s the difference between hovering and gliding, and what do those behaviors tell us about the birds that do them?

About the Instructors:

Dawn Huss serves as Oxbow's Restoration Specialist and Volunteer Coordinator and has enjoyed birding for 20 years. She began her birding journey after an ornithology class in college, and continues to pursue it both for pleasure and to support conservation efforts.

Olivia Longstaff is the Community Engagement Manager at Carnation Farms, where she spends her days bringing people together through workshops, seasonal markets, and lively barn dances. With a background in environmental education, Olivia is passionate about the outdoors and loves sharing the art of nature observation with others.
