All too often we think of “core” work as sit ups, planks & in yoga… navasana! But during this hour long class you’ll be looking at the core from an entirely different perspective as we look to engage the deep muscles of the trunk & the pelvic floor.
Your transverse abdominals lay under your six pack muscles and stabilise your back as you move. They’re the key to strength and stability, and learning how to activate them will see your core strength & yoga practice sky rocket!
Firstly we’ll look at some basic anatomy surrounding the diaphragm, core, back, pelvis & pelvic floor. As we unravel these layers through breathwork you can spend some time seated & laying down getting to grips with how to activate these muscles. AND equally as important…. How to release them.
Diaphragmatic breathing with pelvic floor work to follow as we start to move around more getting the body warmed up.
Then, armed with the techniques & understanding that we covered at the start of the class, you’ll be led through some drill work.
Drills are repetitive movements practiced with awareness & intention. As we work through them you’ll be encouraged to slow down, to really focus on your breath & the quality of the movement. Making sure the engagement is kept during the course of the drill.
This is a fantastic opportunity to really learn how to stabilise & strengthen the core/ pelvic floor & how you can incorporate this in your daily activities… such as when walking… doing the dishes! And much more…
