FRAMES AND FOOTWORK

Frames & Footwork: Afro Dance on Screen and Stage is a one-day celebration of Afro dance, culture, and creativity in Cardiff, featuring films, discussions, and live performance workshops. It takes place on Sunday 2 November 2025 at J1 Studios from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM.

• Hear Me Move — the first South African Sbujwa dance film.

• Pantsula Documentary — exploring township culture, resistance, and rhythm.

• Panel Discussion: Movement as Archive, Protest, Joy & Legacy

A conversation on dance as cultural memory and collective empowerment.

• International Dance Workshop

Live Pantsula dance session led by South African guest instructor Sibusiso Mthembu (Dr Sbu), hosted by AFJ Cardiff.

• Closing Reflection & Networking

Music, freestyle dance, open discussions, and refreshments.

Guest Teacher: Sibusiso Mthembu

Sibusiso, known as Dr Sbu, is a prominent South African dancer and choreographer specializing in Pantsula. He has choreographed and performed internationally, with works including Uhambo Lwamakhehla (2024) and contributing to YEBO YES! (2021). Founder of Dance Rejuvenate Society and DR SBU’S LAB, he teaches and promotes Pantsula culture worldwide.
