About the event

Restoration of Critically Endangered Cape Flats Sand Fynbos

As part of the Society for Ecological Restoration's Make a Difference Week, the KRCA team is leading a restoration project on a section of the conservation area that was historically used as a rubble dump, dating back around the 1960s. In 2024, the rubble was cleared by contractors, creating an opportunity for ecological restoration.

Leading up to the event, the KRCA team and volunteers will prepare the site by removing a layer of contaminated topsoil and any remaining debris to create ideal conditions for replanting.
Participants will help plant propagated indigenous species, sourced from our onsite nursery, helping to return the area to a more naturally functioning state.
