The Unitarian Universalist Church of Canton, NY presents the Ryan Meisel Quartet in a free outdoor concert. Their thought-provoking, dynamic, and spirited music will be performed Friday, August 1, 2025 in a new community space at Prentice Lane just off of Main Street in downtown Canton 5-7 PM. Prentice Lane is becoming a place for art and community connection just off of Main Street between Court and Hodskin Streets. Bring a lawn chair, order some delicious food from local restaurants, and enjoy this special free musical treat.
Ryan is a musician, educator, and composer who grew up outside of Milwaukee and honed his jazz skills under the tutelage of legendary bassist Richard Davis at the UW Madison and master jazz educators Ron Carter and Rodrigo Villanueva at Northern Illinois University. He strives to share music that is original, unifying among musicians, and uplifting for audiences. His brand of jazz is modern and original while paying tribute to the history of swing, bebop, hard-bop, and the avant-garde. Captivating audiences, Meisel expresses the story of his lifelong musical journey through song. Ryan’s brand of fiery saxophone playing pushes the group's improvisational limits. Meisel's playing and compositions will be complemented by Paul Meyers on guitar, Jamison Dunphey on drums, and James Galasinski on bass. For more information go to:

Prentice Lane, Canton:
Village of Canton and Traditional Arts in Upstate New York (TAUNY) completed a placemaking project in Prentice Lane in downtown Canton and celebrated its official opening with the public on Friday, June 27th, 2025.The space features decorative benches, planters and plants, bistro tables, and an archway and racoon bike rack by Mr. Gonzalez. The archway was created by local artist and metalworker James Gonzalez, who was employed at TAUNY as a full-time artist from 2022-24. This new community gathering place will focus on arts and cultural events as a way to bring the public together to enjoy entertainment and connect in our vibrant downtown.
