Join acclaimed poet Micheline Maylor as she hosts an afternoon of mountain stories with authors Bruce Hunter and Beth Everest

Some of The Facts, by Beth Everest is a collection of short stories about the post-WWII, pre-commercialization time in Jasper. It’s loosely based on tales Beth heard growing up in Jasper, with a blend of fact and fiction. As Beth says in her introduction, "I’ve even messed a bit with times that things may or may not have happened. And if someone recognizes themselves or others, or a particular happening. (All proceeds go for relief of the Jasper Fires courtesy of the author)

Bruce Hunter's In The Bear’s House, set in 1960s Calgary and Alberta ‘s backcountry, this reissue of In the Bear’s House tells the story of a creative young mother, Clare Dunlop, raising her deaf son against the insurmountable odds of poverty, mental illness and hardship. The novel opens as seventeen-year-old Clare gives birth to her son, while her husband serves a penitentiary sentence for a serious crime. It’s a coming of age story set on the Kootenay Plains entwined with disability, ecology, and indigenous relations.
