Wisdom and insights from Australia's best musicians - Frank Sultana
Smith's Alternative is pleased to present the next in its series of sessions in which Australia's leading musicians share the knowledge and techniques that have underpinned their careers.
The next musician to feature is Australian bluesman Frank Sultana. Frank has been writing, recording and performing his original blues tunes since 2011. He has 14 albums and EPs in his catalogue, all featuring his takes on the blues form.
A major highlight in Frank's career to date is his win in the solo/duo category of the 2023 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee. His success makes him one of only three blues musicians from outside of North America to win this category in the challenge, in its more than 40 year history. Frank has also won 5 Sydney Blues Society awards, cementing his profile in Australia as well as overseas. Regular appearances at major music festivals have kept Frank busy as well.
Come along for insights into writing and performing blues tunes, as Frank presents some of his work and 'unpacks' his approach to the blues and its variations. An interview with Frank will combine with a Q&A segment, to allow attendees to gain further insights.
Please note that due to time constraints and Frank's gig at Smith's later in the day, there's no opportunity for direct instrumental instruction, so please leave your guitars and such at home. That would be greatly appreciated. There will be plenty to ponder as Frank considers his craft and provides inspiration of all kinds.
Tickets $20/ $15 concession and Canberra Blues Society members.
