Come along to DSA Book Club as we discuss short stories from "Heat and Light" by Ellen van Neerven!
DSA book club picks a book to read, listen or consume in a range of formats and then meets roughly each fortnight to discuss it. We pick books with either explicit or implicit disability themes. We are very chill- you'd don't have to have read the whole book, or at all. You're so welcome to come along regardless.
For "Heat and Light" this semester, we'll be looking at a few different short stories each week. There shouldn't be too much to read each week, but you can also pick and choose which ones you want to come to.
Week 2 - Organising meeting- agreening on a reading schedule, and an introduction to the text.
Proposed reading schedule:
Week 4 - Heat: Pearl, Soil, Hot Stones (38 pages)
Week 6 - Heat: Skin, Crash (32 pages)
Week 7 - Water (64 pages)
Week 9 - Light: Strike Another Match, Real Moment, Anything Can Happen, Lungs, Paddles Not Oars, S&J, The Falls (51 pages)
Week 11 - Light: The Wheel, Currency, Sound, and final comments (58 pages)

SPOON SPACE: The Spoon Space is located in Copland Courtyard, on the right side if you're approaching along university avenue (on the left from Kingsley street). We are located between ANU Community Connect, and the Queer* Space. Our door is the purple, accessible door. The automatic door should not be physically opened- please use the button to open it after swiping your card, and let it close by itself. This keeps our door happy and in working order!
TOILETS: There are both accessible and ambulant unisex toilet stalls, outside the Spoon Space but just along in the corner of Copland Courtyard. There are two single male and female stalls too-but these are often locked. There is another accessible toilet in the other corner of Copland, as well as blocks of male and female toilets.
PARKING: There are 6 accessible car parks on Kingsley Place with 3 right by the corner of the Copland building (in line with the Spoon Space), and 3 at the other end of the Copland building. There are also 3 accessible parks on Kingsley street, behind the Copland & Haydon-Allen buildings See less
