Makani Movie Night: Wadjda
Join us for a summer evening of cinema, conversation, and community as we screen Wadjda, the first feature film shot entirely in Saudi Arabia, and the first directed by a Saudi woman, Haifaa Al-Mansour.
In honour of International Youth Day (12 August), we’re uplifting the voices of young people and celebrating stories of resistance, hope, and transformation. Wadjda follows the story of a bold and spirited 10-year-old girl who dreams of owning a bicycle in a world where girls aren’t meant to ride them.
🌿 Language: Arabic with English subtitles
🌿 Who’s welcome? Everyone, especially families, young people, and those interested in stories that centre joy and change from the ground up.
We can’t wait to gather with you again. Come as you are, bring a friend, and let’s make space for reflection, laughter, and shared meaning.
After the screening, we’ll have an open discussion where you can share your thoughts, insights, and interpretations of the film in a friendly and welcoming space.
